A Place to Belong: South Plainfield Friends Meeting Welcomes the Community
In the quiet countryside of Randolph County, there is a church where faith, fellowship, and genuine community still matter deeply. At South Plainfield Friends Meeting in Sophia, North Carolina, visitors are greeted not simply as guests, but as family.
Located at 4033 Plainfield Road in Sophia, the church has become a place where people from all walks of life gather to worship, pray, and grow spiritually together. The congregation is rooted in the Friends (Quaker) tradition and focuses on a simple but powerful message: Loving God and Loving people.

Sothern Quarter Revival
Week after July 19- Trust and Obey

Southern Quarterly Meeting had their annual four nights of Revival meetings at Bethel Friends meetinghouse this week. I was able to attend on Tuesday night. Music, atmosphere, fellowship all were good and people seemed to be in good spirits.
Alvin Battle, new pastor at South Plainfield delivered the Message from Romans 10: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
He talked about OUR responsibility as Christians to tell the Gospel message to people in various ways and methods. Not all are called to preach, but we are all called to share the means of salvation to those we encounter. After the service, I said to Alvin that his message was on point and exactly what FCNC needs to hear.
In spite of all the communicative devices that we may possess like internet and video, Zoom and Facebook, etc., it remains a fact that over 90% of people only come to a church because they are invited by a friend or family. This has been a constant for centuries. Maybe that was why in some of His last words, Jesus said, “Go into the world and tell the Gospel.”!
I recently asked a group this question: ‘When was the last time you said to a friend, or family member, or neighbor, “I am SO EXCITED about what is going on at our church- I want you to come and experience it for yourself!”’
That kind of enthusiasm is what makes churches grow.
Of course, it has to be true. It can’t be faked. Maybe the first place to start would be to change some things from habitual and dull, to fresh and exciting ??
The service on Tuesday night concluded with the congregation singing the old hymn, “Trust and Obey.” As Christians, we have at least an elementary amount of trust in the Lord. But- are we obeying?
