A Place to Belong: South Plainfield Friends Meeting Welcomes the Community
In the quiet countryside of Randolph County, there is a church where faith, fellowship, and genuine community still matter deeply. At South Plainfield Friends Meeting in Sophia, North Carolina, visitors are greeted not simply as guests, but as family.
Located at 4033 Plainfield Road in Sophia, the church has become a place where people from all walks of life gather to worship, pray, and grow spiritually together. The congregation is rooted in the Friends (Quaker) tradition and focuses on a simple but powerful message: Loving God and Loving people.
According to South Plainfield Friends, the church’s mission is “to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ and serve the community with compassion.” The meeting emphasizes spiritual growth, biblical teaching, worship, outreach, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who walks through its doors.

Week after September 13- Resistance

My one year old grandson was “pitching a fit.” Not sure what you might call it, but that’s what my mom would have said. He was twisting his head away, wrenching his body rigidly against his mother’s arms, and making more noise than should come out of something that small!
She was trying to get something out of his mouth that he had stuck in there- something small, that could have been a choking hazard. It was not food- not something that would have been good for him, but something that could cause him great pain, trouble, or worse. She was trying to get her finger into his mouth, but his resistance was making the task difficult. Biting, clenching, turning, twisting and flailing with his arms and hands, he resisted with all his might. He was resisting the wisdom and goodness of his mother.
God doesn’t take things away that are good for us. We agree when we sing our church songs,- “God is good- all the time.” But people, even Christians, frequently resist His wisdom and goodness.
Think about the 10 Commandments. Which one is harmful to us? Which one can be classified as “bad”? Yet, why are they seldom heeded, or even known? Someone recently stated that even in California, the Commandments used to be on the wall in classrooms. But they have been removed in most schools because they are offensive to some folks (again, ask WHY? What is possibly BAD about them?)
Yet, like babies, people often favor and desire what is bad for them, but resist the good that God is offering.
God has given us His Book that tells us what is good, and/or bad for us. Do we study that plan, or resist even reading it?
God has asked some things from us - like being committed to a thriving church body. Is that good or bad? Maybe there is no perfect church, and there are certainly no perfect people. But a misspoken word should not be cause to turn away from God’s church. Yet it happens all the time
God has asked us to keep away from certain things that will do us harm- like ‘the world’. Yet it seems that people today are so caught up in the stuff of this world that they have no time for His things. Perhaps this is “passive” resistance?
I don’t know if folks are pitching a fit against the Lord these days, or just ignoring Him? Let’s be sure we are not putting up resistance against what God knows is wise and good for us.
Pray about it.
